Henckels Knife Set Review – 17-Piece Knife Block Set

Henckels Knife Set I am a law student in my senior year and while I’m not cramming for exams and studying all sorts of amendments and articles – I take solace in cooking. I love to cook and I was so happy to have purchased a Henckels Knife Set online using my semester’s worth of savings. I spent $84.48 on a 17-piece knife block set (with NO SHIPPING!) and all my friends are telling me that I’m going to the next level in cooking because the Henckels Knife Set really has this vibe of professional cooking to it. So now, the Henckels Knife Set is perched on top of my humble kitchen counter at my apartment and I feel I’m ready to take on any kitchen showdown. I’m kidding, of course, I just feel that having the Henckels Knife Set means serious cooking and I have whipped up a number of seriously great dishes using these knives.

Henckels Knife Set Product Specifications

So maybe some girls are into different make up brushes, I am into knives. This Henckels Knife Set includes a paring knife, a six-inch utility knife, five and a half inch boning knife, an eight-inch chef’s knife, an eight-inch carving knife, an eight-inch bread knife, a seven-inch hollow-edge Santoku, a nice-inch sharpening steel, eight four and half inch steak knives and a sleek, black storage block. De-boning chicken and fish has always been a challenge for me so I’m glad the set came with a five and a half inch boning knife. I learned that the Santoku knife originated in Japan, and that it’s an all-around knife used for slicing, dicing and mincing. I’m still working my way around that one particular knife but I’m pretty much getting the hang of it – using to cut chicken and fish. The eight piece steak knives were a treat – I did like that about the knife set. I also appreciate the sharpening steel included in the set so I can hone my Henckels Knife Set and maintain its sharpness.

They are actually very lightweight and the blades are quite flimsy. But it works well for me anyway, I don’t do the hardcore, chopping away at lightning speed type of cooking, so these knives allow me to take all the time I need. Cutting through thick meats has been a challenge but I make the best of what I have. These Henckels Knives are actually made of full-tang blades meaning that the blade of the knife go through the whole handle thereby giving you a greater grasp and balance on the knife. I don’t have a dishwasher but that’s a good thing because I opt to hand wash these knives. I’ve read reviews that claim that these knives aren’t rust-proof but that can be taken care of. There’s always that element of care when you hand wash things that mean something to you – I mean, I would never toss my silk dresses in the washing machine – it’s the same thing with my knives.

I am aware of the fact that these knives have a ‘Made in China’ label on them and there’s that chance that these knives will have a shorter shelf-life, but you get what you paid for right? A 17-piece knife set at $84.48 is too good to be true so the best thing to do is to take care of the knives as I’ve mentioned in above and get your money’s worth by making these knives last. After all, I’m just a struggling law student with a budget, but once I start making the big bucks – I’ll be sure to invest in authentic German knives.

Knives are a crucial part of any cook’s arsenal and the Henckels Knife Set has definitely allowed me to express my love through cooking, I can’t complain. I’ve had the set for five months now and I haven’t had a trace of rust. Maybe because I take care of my knives, gently hand washing them using a diluted soap solution, dry them with a kitchen towel and I allow them to air dry on top the kitchen counter.

I would recommend the Henckels Knife Set to individuals with a budget – with these knives you can get a good deal and have every knife you’ll need around the kitchen. If you can spend more than $84.48, then go for the more state-of-the-art set of knives. The cavemen who hunted for mammoths had to make their own knives made of stone – I believe we have it better than them. Benjamin Franklin once said that ‘there never was a good knife made of bad steel’ and I find that true with these Henckels because they are made from German stainless steel and it’s just up to the person using it to make them last.

Henckels Knife Set Customer Review

Jack from Philadelphia, PA. My daughter has just turned 16 and takes after her grandmother’s gift of cooking. Both of them are always in the kitchen cooking our family’s favorites such as grits, mashed potatoes and stuffed turkey. I always find that they had to share knives so for her birthday, I bought my daughter a Henckels Knife Set as a starter set of knives. The Henckels Knife Set has helped familiarize herself with the different cutting tools used in cooking and she told me that one day she’ll be America’s next top chef – I’ll wait for that day.
