Rachel Ray Furi FUR865 Knife Set Review

Where to start with the Rachel Ray Furi Knife Set?  I originally heard about these knives from a friend who, like myself, is also a big Rach fan.  She told me that she bought the 5 piece set and absolutely loves them.
I have used the same Ginsu knives for the last 3 years, so I am somewhat loyal to their brand (they are cheap and last).  But it’s Rachel Ray, she wouldn’t steer me wrong.  So I scraped together some cash and bought the Furi 10 piece knife block set.

The set comes with the following:

  • 3-1/2-inch paring
  • 5-inch boning
  • 6-inch serrated utility
  • 7-inch East/West
  • 8-inch bread
  • 8-inch cook’s
  • 8-inch carving knives
  • Wooden Knife Block
  • Carving fork
  • Kitchen shears

So as you can see, you get a large number of high quality items when you order the 10 piece block set.  Also, they have this bright orange rubber hands (which screams of Rachel’s outgoing personality) that make it almost impossible to lose grip.  That’s always a concern of mine, I tend to like my fingers.  The knives are also made of stainless steel, so they shouldn’t rust as long as you take care of them properly.  You can read some of our tips on preventing rust on your knife set.

So that’s pretty much my whole review.  I love these knives and haven’t had any problems so far.  I assumed that I wouldn’t.  I mean, Rachel wouldn’t endorse a shotty product.

Hope this helps!

World Class Knife Set Reviews

I first purchased my world class knife set after seeing an information on TV.  I am usually skeptical to buy anything off of these shows as they seem “too good to be true”.  I have also been burned in the past with different “Exercise” type products.  Fortunately for me, the price of the Miracleblade World Class Knives was cheap enough that I was willing to give them a shot.

I have never owned a legitimately pair of knives, mainly because I rarely cook.  I made it my new years resolution to only order out once a week, which means I am spending a lot more time in the kitchen.  I have had my world class knives for about 3 months now and I ABSOLUTELY love them.  They haven’t lost their sharpness one bit (at least from what I can tell.  I am also no expert).

Forschner Fibrox Review – 7-pc. Cutlery Roll Knife Set

Forschner FibroxForschner Fibrox Review - I had recently got married and only then I realized that I had a penchant for cooking. I was never a really hands-on cook when I was living with my parents but I did watch my Mom cook. I don’t think you can count the fifth-grade after school cooking classes – but I did make a good pizza dough back then. Nevertheless, I learned through my independence that I was a good cook. I wished I had requested a set of knives from the bridal registry because nobody thought of giving me a set of knives. I told my husband that I needed a set of knives and what he got me was a Forschner Fibrox 7-pc. Cutlery Roll Knife Set. I was so excited and I asked him how much it cost, I was thrilled to find out that he only got them for $127.98 and didn’t pay any shipping!

I never learned cooking formally so what do I know about knives, I found out by my short experience that cutting meats, vegetables and even bone require different types of blades. I watched the Food Network more often and the chefs are always talking about serrated knives and what not. Knives are essential for every professional chef and they all keep their knives in a cutlery roll bag so they can bring it wherever they go. Now I understand why on one of those reality cooking shows, the judges say to the eliminated contestant, ‘You may pack your knives and leave’.

Wusthof Gourmet Knife Set Review – 12-Piece Knife Set with Block

Wusthof Gourmet Knife SetYou know those knife sets you see sitting on countertops of almost every kitchen? I’ve always wanted one of those, they seem to make every kitchen countertop complete but I never knew which knife block to buy. Those knife blocks are everywhere even at the $1 dollar store! Then I was over at one of my friend’s house and he was passionately talking of a knife set he bought online. He was doing a demo of it while cooking for us one Sunday and I think I found the knife block of my kitchen countertop dreams! It was the Wusthof Gourmet Knife Set and I was so glad that I was able to buy the set online for $169.99, not bad for a whole knife set made in Germany. I don’t if you’ve heard of Solingen knives from Germany but these Wusthof knives are made from Solingen, Germany which happens to be the “Cutlery Capital of the World”. So these knives are talking serious business on my kitchen countertop.

Pure Komachi 2 Knife Set

Pure Komachi 2 Knife SetLast September I was visiting a friend for dinner when I noticed the most beautiful colors coming from the corner of his kitchen. When I got closer I saw that they were a set of knives – fantastically colored for my friend’s modern looking kitchen. I asked them what they were, and he said they were the Pure Komachi 2 9-piece knife set. I was so impressed that when I went home that night I ordered a set for myself. I’ve never looked back – me and my Pure Komachi 2 knife set have been together ever since.

Having worked as a chef in downtown LA for years, I’m used to the average looking knife set. And even the more expensive brands – Wusthof, Global, etc. – never look that expensive. For my own kitchen, I wanted something unique and attractive, yet still high-performing. The Pure Komachi 2 knife set has been the perfect set for my needs.

Chicago Cutlery Knife Set

Chicago Cutlery Knife SetIf you’d have asked me a year ago if I thought I’d ever own a Chicago Cutlery knife set, I would have laughed. I’d always dreamed of owning a high-end knife set, but never thought I could afford one. But when my husband showed me the Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18-Piece knife set, I jumped on the chance. Both my husband and I have fallen in love with these knives. I’ve always had trouble cutting through tough meats, and I was expecting these knives to make no difference. So a few days after receiving the knives, I was cooking a steak and decided to try the knives out. The blade slid through the meat as if it were thin air. I looked at my husband and said, “Wow, I guess it was the knives all along!” And with the full lifetime warranty, we’ll never need to worry about buying another knife set again.  Check it out on Amazon.com

Chicago Cutlery Knife Set Specs

The Chicago Cutlery knife set includes a 3-inch peeling knife, a 3-1/4-inch paring knife, a 5-inch utility knife, a 5-inch Partoku (Chicago Cutlery invented this knife – it’s a combination of a Santoku and a paring knife), a 7-3/4-inch serrated bread knife, a 7-inch Santoku knife (for dicing, mincing, and chopping) , a 7-3/4-inch chef’s knife, an 8-inch slicer, eight 4-1/4-inch flatware steak knives, an 8-inch sharpening steel, and a honey-maple wood storage block. The wood storage block is expertly crafted to look beautiful in any kitchen, modern or traditional. Chicago Cutlery was also kind enough to include a metal cover over the knife set’s storage block to protect the storage surface from misplaced knife tips.

Saber Knives

Saber KnivesI’m a chef on the move, and I can’t carry around a knife set sitting in some bulky storage block. When I get called to cater an event (I own a catering company), I need to be on the move and ready to cut. Most knife sets designed for on the go use have a variety of problems: awkward carrying cases or poor quality metal; rusting blades or inability to hold a sharp edge. I’ve been more than thrilled with the Saber Chef Knives – they’re now number one knives on the go AND at home (sorry Wusthof).

Saber Knives – F-11 Chef Knives

The set of Saber F-11 Chef Knives include a 3-1/2-inch paring knife, a 4-1/2-inch paring knife, a 5-inch French boning knife, a 6-inch utility knife, a 7-inch Santoku, and an 8-inch bread knife, as well as an 8-inch slicer, an 8-inch chef knife, a 10-inch chef knife, a 10-inch ham knife, and a 10-inch sharpening steel—all with a durable knife bag for the travelling chef like me. And it’s worth emphasizing that the knife bag is fully equipped with extra compartments for other kitchen tools you might want to bring along for the job. The bag is of high quality and I feel quite professional walking onto the job carrying these knives. All together, the set is only ten pounds! (And if you’re not interested in the bag, like another chef I know, you can simply scrap the bag and keep these knives on a magnet rack or other storage system.) The knives are also very attractive. More than once I’ve received compliments from other chefs on these Saber knives. The rivets are left visible on the handle, giving these knives a classic look. The bolster and handle are also well constructed and comfortable on the front of your hand as you cut. Saber definitely had ergonomics on their mind when they designed these knives.
